How to Use Castor Oil Tummy Packs

Castor oil is a natural oil rich in ricinoleic acid that has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and circulation-enhancing properties. It is commonly used topically or as castor oil packs to support pain relief, digestion, liver and lymphatic function, skin health, and hormonal balance. Here is a quick guide on how to use castor oil tummy packs:

1. Gently Massage Tummy

Gently massage your tummy with a liberal amount of castor oil. Start from the lower right side, moving upward to the lower left in small circular motions. Massage gently, moving upwards for 10 minutes nightly.

  • Alternatively, you can rub the whole tummy with a liberal amount of castor oil if the above method seems too much.

2. Castor Oil Tummy Packs or on Affected Area

Place 2 tablespoons of castor oil on a small white towel (or cut a square from an old, clean white T-shirt). The cloth must be white since castor oil is absorbed through the skin, and dyes from colored cloths can be absorbed too.

  • Place the castor oil-soaked towel on the area of discomfort on the abdomen or the affected area. For liver detox, place it over the right abdomen below the ribs.

  • Cover the castor oil-soaked towel with another clean old T-shirt or towel. ii. Place a heating pad over this for at least 30 minutes nightly. This can be done while watching TV or just before bedtime.

  • You can reuse the castor oil pack. Simply store the oil-soaked square in a glass jar (never a plastic jar!) and add 1/2 tablespoon of castor oil to the T-shirt square on following nights.

  • Use castor oil until you have regular bowel movements or the pain or discomfort has stopped.

Recommended Castor Oil Product: St. Francis Castor Oil

  • The oil should be organic, cold-pressed, and in a dark glass bottle (not plastic).
